Scissors Paper Stone

Exhibition took place at the Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal, 18 May – 15 July 2013.
Jill Pemberton’s travels in China

“stone breaks scissors – scissors cut paper – and paper wraps stone”

This was Jill’s first major solo exhibition for 5 years, a response to a journey through China made in 2011.

“This exhibition reflects my realisation that the world is no longer Western and that China especially is not a nation state but a civilization state. It lives in and with its past in a way that I am struggling to understand. I have tried to explore this learning process visually. It is my way of making some sense of a 21st Century challenge which impacts on us all.”

This collection of Jill’s work is her interpretation of the essence of those images meeting through paper, montage, clay and paint.
